Pick Soulstealer. Yeah you will play terribly the first 20 games but after that should be real easy to dominate.
First go to
My Documents > Heroes Of Newerth > Game > startup.cfg
and add this line at the end:
BindImpulse game SPACE Cmd “Action OrderStop;Action OrderHold;”
This will bind your space to both stop and hold command. This is a great bind but especially useful for SS who often has to cancel his ult or his nukes.
You must have a courier, if your team doesn’t buy one, buy one yourself. Get 1 potion, 3 runes of blight, 2 duck boots and 2 minor totems. Skip 1 totem and duck boot if you buy your own courier.
Get soulsteal at level 1 and then prioritizing demonic hand over soulsteal. When both are maxed get your ulti.
Levels 1-3 do very little harass and just focus on last hitting. At level 3-4 your base damage has increased and you should harass more. You can get a kill but it does require real good timing and skill. Start harassing more, if hero against you has like 500hps, you can hit them twice, land your triple nuke and kill them. Check out my video at the bottom how I kill Andromeda at level 4 from full hps.
Around this time you should have bottle, which is a core item on SS. From here on take an opportunity you can to nuke your opponent, preferably getting 2 or more creep kills with it. Your spell damage output is ridiculous and the hero facing you will either have to head back to regen or stay at low hps, allowing you to kill them. Demon hands have a large AOE so its a breeze to harass and farm with them at the same time.
If you are missing the runes and find yourself low on bottle charges upgrade the courier and keep bottle whoring. Get boots, and at level 7 start just nuking down the creep waves. You can kill the entire creep wave with 2 nukes, aim in the middle between the archer and the melee, and use your long and medium range one.
Your opponent will find their lane getting consistently pushed, and they will have to stay back to deal with it, while you are able to get the runes and refill your bottle. If you find an invis or haste rune then its pretty much a near guarantee kill.
A tip for landing demon hands. Right click your opponent will make your hero face them immediately if you are within attack range. So right click and immediately cast your short or mid range nuke. If they are further away then let the attack go through and cast immediately after. The reason being your nuke has way longer range than your auto attack.
For your next item, if you’re having a hard time in the lane and your farm isn’t great get steam boots, they help your damage and give you hp you badly need. Keep farming until you get Assasin’s Shroud. At level 11 you will be able to kill pretty much any hero and even get a triple kill if they are clumped together.
This is really the gimmick that destroys low level players. Tp around the map, get close to a farming enemy hero and while you’re in fog of war activate cloak. Click move next to them, on the opposite side you are coming from and right when you are on top of them click hold position and ulti. As shown in the gif below. Level 3 ulti will do like 1500 damage or something absurd. Again, check out the video at the bottom.
Your next item is shrunken head which allows you to stick in the middle of a team battle after dropping your ulti. Then whatever damage item you want for example shield breaker or riff shards for damage or wingbow, demonic breastplate or behemoth heart for more survivability. Even frostburn or forstwolf skull works but not always recommended.
In summary, soulstealer is a versatile here that can dominate early-mid, mid, and even late game.To master SS you have to be really good at last hitting, have good timing, and understand position. Here are some quick highlights I snatched from a random MM game. Hope you found these tips helpful.
